It seems like it's been quite some time since I've been on here. So I guess a recapitulation of my life is in order.

First of all, besides a couple classes, the semester is going swimmingly. I should escape Spring 08 with a majority of A's. A feat that always pleases me. Schoolwork has definitely been stressful, and I'm really not looking forward to next semester, when it may just put me over the edge. I'm taking Water Resources, which according to all my friends is a huge headache, and Senior Design. Which is also going to be a headache, because I'm graduating in the Fall semester, which means the Senior Design project will be EnvE based. It's the Civil Dept.'s way of throwing us a bone. Unfortunately this bone comes with three CE major partners who probably couldn't tell you the basic processes used in a waste water treatment plant. On the upside, if we are doing waste water treatment, I might get to learn more about oxidation ditches. Which I've always wanted to really look more in depth on, but never had the chance.

Now that you're all bored with my EnvE mumbo jumbo, I'll move on to more fun things... Lance!!! Things are going REALLY well with Lance. I think we've both gotten more used to being long distance. Don't get me wrong, it still hurts a LOT being away from him so much. But we've been doing really well. Contrary to popular belief, long distance CAN work. Anyway, Lance and I decided to move our wedding date up (again, for those of you who are counting) Originally it was Sept 2009, then it was Aug 2009, and now we've decided May 16, 2009. Which is only about a year away. So, this summer is going to be devoted to planning a wedding, start to finish. I mostly want to get it done to the T as much as possible before I go back to school next fall. However, if it's not, I can work on it over the phone, and in the spring. Mostly, I'm just excited that in ONE YEAR, I'm going to be married to the sweetest, handsomest, smartest, and funniest man I've ever met. I don't know how I got so lucky, but I'll gladly accept it.

In other random news... I do have a summer "job". It's not an internship really, I"m not working for a company. But I am working in a research lab for groundwater nutrient transport. Mostly I'm excited because this means I get to live with my Lancey all summer long. Which will be nice, since we're coming off of being separated for so long. I'm very excited. Then, like I mentioned, I'll be graduating in December (eek! so soon!). I'm about 99% sure I want to go ahead and get my masters degree, but I think I'll get it from K-State (since I'll be married the following May, and I refuse to be married to my man and not be living with him, that's just unnatural) K-State has a GeoEnvironmental Engineering graduate program, that I might look into. It's basically the ChemE, Agro, CE, and GE departments all kind of working together. Anyway, since I'm kind of heavily leaning toward doing some sort of groundwater and soil remediation as my career, this would be REALLY good degree to have.

Last little tid bit of news. Today was kind of fun, the campus had a guest "speaker" And by that I mean, we had some crazy preacher come to our campus and stand in front of the Havener Center (our student union) shouting out that everyone on the campus was going to hell. Pretty much if you've ever had sex, you're doomed. I know you're thinking, what about married people, but he actually went after a married woman saying that her marriage wasn't holy in the eyes of the Lord, therefore she was a whore. I guess the best word for his message was shocking. It was just amazing what was coming out of his mouth (in front of his 8ish year old son he brought with him) I actually could not believe what he was saying. Ironically enough, he came to campus on National Day of Silence. Which for the GLBTA community is a day when you refuse to say a single word all day in order to symbolize that many gay/bi/tran people in the world can't speak out about who they really are without facing severe persecution. It was really quite shocking what was happening. And technically campus police couldn't do anything because he had gotten a permit to speak. So mostly there was just a crowd around him laughing and making jokes and shouting at him. A handful of people got into pretty heated debates. One friend of mine who shall go nameless because s/he's a member of the GLBTA orginization on campus went up to him and asked him to shake his/her hand. The man refused because this person was wearing a "gay, fine by me" t-shirt, and he couldn't touch a person who could POSSIBLY be gay. It was kind of crazy... I felt bad for the kid... I feel bad for any child raised in an environment where they have no freedom to discover things like religion and sexuality and free thought for themselves. Anyway, after a while of listening, and occasionally shouting out things about how love is always preferable to hate, I went home, because I was bored/annoyed.
Friday, March 07, 2008

School is really easy this semester. I shouldn't jinx it though.

So I found out the other day that the GPA used to determine the cum laude's only take into account the classes you take at the school you graduate from.

Which means.... I won't be able to get the highest one... pooey. however... I should be able to manage all A's this semester (maybe one B, Air Pollution is being frustrating) so that'll help a lot.

In other news, Lance came down to visit me last weekend, and it was amaaaazing! We really didn't do much, but I think we both really just missed being with each other. However, only 2 months until summer begins, and after summer, only 1 semester until we're living together forever and ever! So yay!

That's really all the news of my life. Da Vinci is starting to annoy me, or rather, certain extremely talkative self centered eboard members who don't know how to be polite and stay quiet when other people are talking, are starting to annoy me. I used to try to politely ask her to hush up. Now I just raise my voice and talk right over her. It seems to be working, at least her pointless tangents are now only about a minute long instead of 5.
Monday, February 04, 2008

I can't get Lindsey Lohan's, "Confessions of a Broken Heart" out of my head. I've been singing it to myself for days.

In other news... the creator of Gilmore Girls is coming out with a new show, about "two estranged sisters who try to raise a baby..." actually, one sister can't conceive so she asks the other to do it for her.

Anyhoo, one of the sisters is played by an actress who I really like, so I think I"m gonna watch it (it doesn't come out until March) and see if I like it.

That's all for now.

bye bye!

Also... people should definitely be reading Lance's and my wedding xanga at www.xanga.com/geeks_in_love27 so you can know the happenings of us planning our wedding. So far... we've decided that we want to get married outside. Dun dun duuun!
Tuesday, January 22, 2008

Well last week was kind of stinky, but this weekend was really nice. I went to Manhattan to see Lancey for a 3-day weekend.

The first night, we had a nice dinner at the Thai place, then we stayed in all night because he had to study for this test thing that all grad students have to pass. So I helped him study/played Viva Pinata. Which was okay. Then the next day, Lance got up bright and early to study some more, while I slept in. yay sleep. Then we got some fast food lunch so he could get some last minute studying in before his test at 1. Then at 1, he went and took his test, and I stayd back at home, played some Viva Pinata, and cleaned up the apartment some.

That night we had some Chipotle with some of his friends in Manhattan, and went bowling. And I actually bowled pretty well... I broke 100 on my first game. Which most people will roll their eyes at, but for me, that's really good. Then I got in the upper 80's on my second game. So it was a pretty good night, I thought.

On Sunday, Lance and I watched Cloverfield, which was reeeally good! It was filmed by one of the actors carrying a hand held video camera, which kind of made me a little dizzy. But it had a great, realistic effect. And the story was pretty good, and heart warming. I really liked it, I give it 2 thumbs up. Everyone should go see it. Other than that, one of the previews was AWFUL! Apparently... the director of Pan's Labyrinth. the amazing Pan's Labyrinth, my favorite movie of last year.... has just finished working on... "Hell Boy 2" UGH!!!! How can a director go from something so amazing to something so idiotic???? I don't get Hollywood.

After the movies, we went to the mall to walk around, Dilliards was having it's semi-annual bra sale. Sadly though, they only had one bin full of my bra size, and all of the bras in my size were old granny looking bras. So booooo no new bras for Sarah. So then we went back home with a pizza from Pizza Hut and watched some Vincent Price, ate pizza, and sat around enjoying spending alone time with each other. That was my personal favorite night of the weekend.

Then Monday, I had to leave. And that stunk. We said our good byes, were very sad. And next weekend... is our anniversary!!! yay!!! 1 year with the most amazing man ever, and 60 or so years to come. Love is wonderful.

This morning I accidentally broke the lightbulb in my room and it took me until about 20 min ago to get the base out so I could put a new one in. Urrrr... Rolla is poopy.
Friday, January 18, 2008

Sarah and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad First Week of School

Well first off, I was sick, and no one likes to be sick. but that wasn't really so bad on itself. What DID suck was when I found out on Wednesday that the prescriptions that I ordered weren't coming to me. Let me clarify... my mom's health care plan and subsequently, my health care plan, won't give us the lowest deductible on our prescription medicines unless we order them online. So over Winter Break, I sent in my order and had my prescriptions sent to Rolla, my default address. EXCEPT!!! I didn't look at my default address when I was filling out my order, I looked at my default address's last line, "Rolla, MO 65401" Which, it just so happens, is also where TJ Residential Hall, my old dormitory is. And wouldn't you know it... TJ Res Hall is where all my prescriptions got sent. And when TJ Res Hall gets packages for people who no longer live there, do you know what they do with them? They send them right back the very next day!

So now here I am... I have 4 days worth of allergy medicine left, 1 month worth of Birth control (thank goodness) and about 3 weeks worth of work before I will actually get this medicine back again.

But... that's not all, as if I weren't already stupid enough... On Thursday night, Ashley (my roommate) and I went to the DaVinci meeting, and seeing as how I now live with a DV member, I thought, "hey, I won't need my key, I'll be coming home with her" However... I did NOT come home with her. I went home before her, an hour before her. Because as per DV tradition, after meetings, some of the group goes to Steak and Shake to steak it and shake it. But I normally don't, so I went home... found I didn't have my key... and then promptly found out, I didn't have my cell phone, so I couldn't even ask her to come home early to bail me out. So I had the good fortune of spending MY Thursday night in the cold little entry way of our apartment building, waiting for her to come home. And since Lance loves me, he was worrying himself half to death, wondering where I might be, and once again, no phone, so I couldn't even call him and tell him not to worry.

But no, my week's not over yet! Today, I woke up and discovered that for some reason, my school email won't accept my correct password. And I thought I had a meeting at 8 with my research adviser. But as it turns out (as I'm sure I would have known had I been able to access my email) that meeting was not going to be held, because said research adviser had a class to teach. So I get all the way there, and meet up with him on his way to his class. I can't really blame anyone, they didn't make my email impossible to access, but boy I would have liked that extra hour of sleep!

So now I'm telling myself, just make through your 9 am class, then you get to go to Manhattan and spend a wonderful 3 day weekend with the most important person in your life.

Lance!

Thursday, December 13, 2007

I am finished with finals week!

And, tomorrow I'm going to pick up my car at the car shop, and drive it to Kansas City, where I can relax and have a whole month of happiness, before I have to return to Rolla.

Things I look forward to most:

Lance
Spending time with Lance
Kissing Lance
Hugging Lance
Doing other things with Lance

And I guess the rest of my family and good food. I do miss good food.

So yeah, tomorrow's going to be amazing. And most of final week was good, this morning wasn't though. This morning, my final really sucked... I dunno. I'm about 90% sure I passed the class, which is all I ask for. It did hurt my gpa a LOT. And as we all know, I'm a perfectionist, and I like to get all A's and be perfect and have people worship my amazing student-ness. But I guess, for this class.... it just wasn't possible. C'est la vie.
Tuesday, December 04, 2007

How unmotivated am I?

Tonight I have my GE 50 lab final. I'm looking over all my labs and all my quizzes and I realize... I really have no idea how to study for this stupid test. Just that I dunno. I really hate that class. I sort of need to do well... I'm getting a B in the class, and I'd sort of like an A, since I'm getting B's in almost all of my classes. Gotta get the A's where I can.

Anyway... I'm just blah. I think getting such a nice Thanksgiving week off made me not want to do anymore more work... ever. And after AIDS Awareness week, which I personally think went really well, but according to almost everyone else, went really bad. Idiots. I feel like I put so much work and so much time into pleasing everyone else, and they think what I try to do is bad. So yeah... I'm kind of hating the entire Da Vinci Eboard right now. Maybe not Andrew, he's always been nice... even if he was next to useless last week.

Anyway, I guess I just need to type for a while. I need to leave for a meeting with my group from ChemE 120, so we can finish our group project and practice our presentation. My only hope is that certain group members don't plagiarize, like they did for their section of the group report... Then since I shared the section with said offender, I had to go in and rewrite the entire thing. huzzah, more work for Sarah. So yeah.

So group project for an hour or so, then study last minute for my final (which is from 6-8, could they come up with a worse time???) Go to havener center and fight with the idiots about sending the AIDS Quilt back home. Take my final. Then come home and laze around for the rest of the day. Tomorrow I don't really have anything I really need to do. Start studying for the rest of my finals?

I have too much work to do

Friday, November 30, 2007

The rest of T-week, and my life in Rolla.

Well the week continued to be good. After Lance and I came back to Kansas City, we went to 4, yes FOUR, different thanksgiving meals. We went to his dad's, his mom's family, my family, and just his mom and Tom's immediate family get together. It was really fun. All of his family is so nice. Oh yeah, his mom and Lindsey (his sister) and I went to Kohl's to do some Christmas shopping. His mom kept saying, "you haven't chosen enough stuff yet" so I think I'm going to have like the biggest Christmas of my life, since his mom got me some clothes, and my parents will get me a handful of stuff, and I get to spend it with Lance, who has only ever been wonderful when it comes to holidays and birthdays. So I guess that's a huge thing to look forward to.

Anyway, Thanksgiving week was really hectic, Lance and I spent so much time together. I felt just like we'd never been apart. Then Sunday came, and we had to be apart again. It's so awful, to have all that amazing time together, and then have to leave again. I miss him so much But I realize, I have to go to college, I have to finish my degree. So I can get a good career. I understand all this.

Anyway, so on my way to Rolla I hit a huge animal. I mean it wasn't like a deer or anything, but it was big enough to damage my car and stuff. I was pretty upset, the first thing I did was call up Lance and cry, I think I was pretty close to hysterical.. which was bad since I was still driving. But Lance is so wonderful and he calmed me down, and now I'm just really peeved because working with our insurance company is becoming so much of a pain. But I need my car, and I need it fixed.

So that's all I have, I love my Lancey, things are kind of blegh down here. (It's the getting spoiled spending so much time with Lance that makes coming back down to Rolla frustrating)
Sunday, November 18, 2007

So I'm at Lance's apartment now. It's a lot of fun, and course, so nice to get to see him again. Right now he's doing dishes. He didn't want my help:( Oh wells. Anyhoo, I got here Friday night, and we were going to go get some Chipotle (because awesome burritos yay!) But the parking lot was full, and then we saw someone backing out of a space, but they refused to back out while we were there, so we decided to circle around, and by the time we got back over there, some other guy stole our spot. so we were pretty upset about that, and we never did find an open spot. So then we just ate taco bell and watched tv.

Then Saturday, we went and saw Saw 4. It was pretty good, for that kind of a film. And Lance really liked it, so that's good. There was a couple sitting behind us who talked through the entire movie, which was kind of annoying. Then that night, we ordered pizza, only it took an hour and a half to get here, when they told us it'd only take 45 min, so we tipped them like 50 cents. Which, if you know Lance, you know that's crazy, because he tips well. But still, we were both practically starving by the time it got here.

Then, as we ate it, we watched Black Sheep, which is a story set in New Zealand, about this genetic alteration of sheep gone all wrong, like... the sheep turned mad, and started killing all the humans and eating them alive. Then at night, the humans would come back to life as half human - half sheep monsters. And they'd go around biting other humans. It was a crazy movie. There was a vegetarian character, who was a huge hippie. Which I didn't like, because I always feel like movies, tv, and therefore all the idiots who believe movies and tv, think that vegetarians are brainless idiots who just sit around smoking pot and meditating and communing with nature or whatever. So I always hate it when I see a movie that totally sells that stereotype.

Anyway, the movie ended with them herding all the sheep into a barn, and then igniting their farts (methane) So needless to say, it was a pretty silly movie, but we knew it would be going in.

And then today we went to the mall, and looked around, and ate at a mongolian bar-b-que, but it wasn't as good as BD's. But it was still pretty good, and I ate a lot, because Lance said I wasn't eating enough and I had to get a second bowl. But he didn't finish either of his bowls, so I think I probably ate more than him.

I just realized my writing sounds very juvenile, like a 4th grader wrote it. Oh well.

I think I'm gonna go watch some tv or something

Monday, November 12, 2007

So everyone should head on over to my sister's xanga

www.xanga.com/ayayla

to see the pictures of my amazingly adorable nephew!!!!
